Shatta Wale’s lawyer tells the court: prosecute him now or discharge him.

Lawyers for Shatta Wale, a dancehall performer, have expressed dissatisfaction with how the State is prolonging their client’s trial.

Shatta Wale and his alleged accomplices, Kojo Owusu Koranteng, better known as Nana Dope, Eric Venator, alias Gangee, and Iddriss Yussif, are accused of publishing false news.

The dancehall artiste’s lawyers, Jerry Avenogbor, Andrew Vortia, and Samuel Ofori, told the Accra Circuit Court 4 that the accused persons were detained with speed and aggression and brought before the court only for the prosecution to go back to sleep.

Mr Avenogbor Esq lamented in court today, Tuesday 25th January 2022, that for the past three months, all they’ve done is come to court for an adjournment.

“While Mr Ofori told the court they were ready for trial and questioned the prosecution’s delay,” citinewsroom.com reported, “Mr Vortia urged the court to begin contemplating an acquittal and discharge of the accused men.”

According to the website, the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Denis Terkpetey Esq., responded by accusing the accused’s lawyers of violating a gentleman’s agreement on the topic.

He goes on to say that the parties were supposed to collaborate in the arrest of another suspect in the case, but Shatta Wale’s lawyers have so far refused to do so, according to him.

Chief Inspector Terkpetey told the court that his unit would use all available resources to apprehend the fugitive suspect. The matter was then adjourned until February 15, 2022, by the court, which was presided over by His Honour, Emmanuel Essandoh.
