Pope Benedict passes away at the age of 95.

According to the Vatican, former Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI passed away at the age of 95.

Remember that Pope Benedict served as head of the Catholic Church from 2009 until his resignation in 2013. After Gregory XII in 1415, Pope Benedict became the first pope to resign.

Although it was revealed that the Pope’s health had declined recently, the Vatican said on Friday that he was in “stable” condition and had taken part in Thursday’s mass in his room.

The Vatican’s official statement was released;

I regret to inform you that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI passed away today at 9:34 in the Vatican’s Ecclesiae Monastery. According to Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See press office, more details will be made available as soon as possible.

In order to allow the faithful to pay their respects, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s body will lie in state in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, according to the Vatican press office.
