Nine land guards grabbed at Gomoa Fetteh.

The anti-land guard squad from the Police National Headquarters deployed to the Kasoa area apprehended nine people suspected of being gun-wielding land guards at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.

The team, led by Chief Inspector John Danso of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) of the Ghana Police, arrested the suspects at the palace of the Chief of Gomoa Fetteh on Friday.

The suspects are Abusua Panin Kwao Abeka, Stephen Abeka, Isaac Quansah, Isaac Aful, Alfred Sarfo, Mohammed Ibrahim, Obed Nyonyo, Daniel Asamoah, and Adam Suraiya.

The cops also found one pump-action gun with six rounds of ammunition, three expended shells of 9mm ammunition, three military camouflage uniforms, and a small amount of dried cannabis leaves.

Other items retrieved were one G3 magazine, three pairs of desert boots, three pairs of black boots, one black jacket, a tape measure, one cutter, six cutlasses, six knives, five scissors, a pickaxe, one carpenter saw, a screw driver, and a receipt book labelled “Gomoa Fetteh Asafo levy.”

The police have also arrested three other suspects, namely Abdulai Mummuni, Timaya Sumaila, and Kwasi Gyamfi at Alowan, who were seen protecting an estate developer, but no exhibits were retrieved from them.

All twelve suspects are at the Kasoa Divisional Headquarters and are being processed for court on Monday.

The Greater Accra Police Department arrested 50 landguards.

The Accra Regional Police Command arrested 50 Land Guards in October 2017. The 50 (21 of whom are on remand, 20 are on court bail, and nine are on police inquiry bail) were arrested from five divisions of the Accra Regional Police Command.

A statement signed by the Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) George Alex Mensah, said the suspects were arrested in areas such as Ngleshie Amanfrom, Ofankor-Obimpe, Ashiyie, Quartey Papafio, Adjen Kotoku, Oyarifa, Asalaja, Mayera, Tuba, East Airport, and Ayimensah in the Adenta, Weija, Amasaman, Airport, and Baatsona divisions of the command.

The statement emphasized that the operation was part of the command’s resolve to clamp down on land guard activities in the Greater Accra Region.

It appealed to the public to constantly furnish the police with credible and reliable information that would help smoke out land guards and bring them to book in order to end the menace.
